Sizing Mechanical Systems

Right-size the HVAC instead of guessing. An oversized unit short-cycles and leaves humidity high, which is the worst outcome for wood; an undersized unit runs constantly and raises the bill. Load calculations based on the actual climate data beat rules of thumb every time, and a good designer runs them before the floor plan is locked.

Plan mechanical chases in the center of the house so ducts do not run through exterior log walls. Drilling through the wall assembly for every supply run weakens the envelope and invites air leaks at the exact points where they are hardest to seal.
